A Gems in Israel Exclusive
Gems in Israel is pleased to offer its readers two limited
edition signed prints (photo lithographs-250 per series) by Jerusalem artist,
Helen Bar-Lev.
Helen is renowned for her delicately unique technique
combining pen and brush to achieve a level of
detail rarely seen in watercolor paintings.
With more than 20 solo exhibitions to her credit (in addition
to numerous group exhibitions), Helen's works can be found
at The Israel Museum, in the private collections of former mayor
of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek and Ze'ev Pearl, former mayor of
Safed. Private collectors from Finland to Argentina have acquired
her watercolors. She is the recipient of the New City of Haifa
Medallion (2000).
Why we chose Safed for our first prints?
As an online publisher, it seems only fitting to honor the past.
The first printing press in the Middle East began churning out
printed pages in Safed, where in 1578 the first Hebrew book
was printed, (at the time this greatly simplified the dissemination
of religious texts). The 16th century was in fact the city's Golden Age,
during which Safed surpassed even Jerusalem. Safed became
the center of the Jewish spiritual world with the rise of Jewish
mysticism (Kabbalah). Some of the Jewish faith's most important
texts were written in Safed, including; Rabbi Joseph Caro's Shulchan Aruch,
the most comprehensive codification of Halachic law to this day as
well as the mystical teachings of Rabbi Yitzhak Luria (Ha-Ari).
Size: The signed prints are 16.5" x 11.75" (42 cm x 30 cm).
Please note: The prints will be shipped via registered mail. Please take this into account when specifying your shipping address. If you are buying this as a gift, please let us know, so that we may include a card with the package.
