Wall of Ice - Related note:

As part of the year-long millennium exhibition Chihuly will begin a 24-hour long project, to construct a 40-foot long, 12-foot high wall of pure and almost transparent ice beneath the Old City walls.

The project will begin at sundown on Saturday, October 2, 1999 as the Sabbath draws to a close in Jerusalem. Chihuly will unveil a 64-ton ice phenomenon known as "Arctic Diamond", on October 3rd. The ice,was cut from an ice field near Fairbanks, Alaska and is said to be the purest in the world. Chihuly shipped 24 blocks of ice, weighing 2-3 tons each, to Jerusalem for the October 3rd event.
