Michal and Erez
Friedman, operate two unique ventures, at Moshav
Zippori, adjacent to the national park. The
Ancient Arts Workshop offers small groups (of up
to 20 people) an opportunity to create a mosaic
using ancient methods. Each participant leaves the
workshop with a tile that they created on their
own. Workshops are held either on site at the
national park or at the couple's gallery and last
45 minutes. The cost is 13 NIS per person,
however, there is a minimum charge of 390 NIS,
regardless of the number of people attending.
Tessera is the Greek word for mosaic. Aptly, it
is also the name of the Friedman's gallery. Here,
the work is conducted using both modern and
ancient methods. You can view and purchase from
Michal's works, which include both floor tiles as
well as indoor and outdoor furniture. At Tessera
you can also order custom designed pieces. The
Friedman's also produce a beautiful assortment of
mosaic kits that are suitable for both adults and
children. Some of the kits feature reproductions
of mosaics discovered at the excavations but also
include a zodiac series. The kits are sold at
various locations outside Israel, including the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Epcot
Millenium pavilion, to name a few.
