This former Pasha's palace was built in the 19th
century. It has a wonderful courtyard that is a great
place to rest and enjoy some coffee, fresh lemonade, or
a light meal, after a day of walking in Jerusalem's Old
City. The courtyard is fairly small, full of plants,
waiters are extremely attentive and the atmosphere is
one of relaxed elegance.
This hotel, a favorite haunt of journalists and
diplomats alike is said to have served as the site of
many informal meetings between Israelis and Palestinians
before actual relations were established.
The American Colony Hotel is located at: 1 Louis
Vincent Street, off Nablus Road, North of the Old City
walls, a few minutes from the Damascus Gate (although
after a long day of walking, some may want to take a
cab).
