After your
visit to Old Gesher, you may be ready for a bite
to eat. A few miles up the road, at the entrance
to Kibbutz Ashdot Ya’acov Ichud, there is a nice
un-assuming place called Tzel Tamar (which means
shade of the palm).
The restaurant is located in a wooden building
surrounded by a green lawn and is nestled among
palm and banana trees. A number of visits to this
informal restaurant have not disappointed. While
it is not tiny, there is something cozy about the
place.
Tzel Tamar specializes in meat courses. The
menu includes lamb, beef, chicken and even
ostrich. There is a wide variety of first courses,
an assortment of salads (which are huge), and a
few pasta dishes. The restaurant also offers a
children’s menu.
Tzel Tamar operates as a restaurant and a pub
(from about 10:30 PM). It also rents the premises
for special events.
Note: On the weekends, you should plan to make
a reservation.
Directions: Tzel Hatamar is located off Route
#90 at the entrance to Kibbutz Ashdot Ya’acov
Ichud (coming from Old Gesher, it will be on the
right hand side of the road. Be on the lookout for
the sign for Ashdot Ya’acov Ichud, on the left
side of the road. After you make the right hand
turn, look for the small parking lot, off to the
right.
