For those interested in archaeological sites, ruins, the enchanting Galilee, beautiful Roman Era mosaics and the history of the Jews in Eretz Yisrael after the destruction of the second Temple in Jerusalem.
After the failure of the Bar Kochba revolt to bring independence to Judea between 132-135 CE, the Jewish people were banned from Jerusalem and Judea. We will explore three synagogues all dating to the Mishnaic-Talmudic time when the Galilee was the center of Jewish learning and thought throughout the world. These three synagogues are breathtaking examples of Jewish architecture and fine examples on how the role of synagogues changed from community centers during the Second Temple Period to houses of worship after the Temples destruction.
